Daisy began her yoga journey in 1996 with a Beginner's Week at Sivananda Yoga Ashram ("The Yoga Farm") in Grass Valley, California. Three years later, she completed the Sivananda Yoga Teacher's Training Course which certified her to teach Sivananda-style yoga to beginners. Then, she explored the Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Bikram hatha yoga styles - three of the most common styles practiced in the US. Drawn to Iyengar-style yoga for its precision and very strong foundation in anatomy, Daisy decided to focus on this style. Daisy is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) at the 500-hour level with Yoga Alliance, a national organization that establishes minimum training standards for yoga teachers in the United States. Yoga teachers must train in programs totalling either 200 or 500 hours in order to receive the RYT designation. Daisy's first Iyengar teacher was a student of Geeta Iyengar's (Mr. B.K.S. Iyengar's daughter). In June, 2004, she completed the Yoga Alliance 500-hour certified, 3-year "Advanced Studies Program in Yoga" at The Yoga Room in Berkeley, California. Daisy's main teachers at The Yoga Room are Donald Moyer, the director, and Mary Lou Weprin, the associate director. Both Donald and Mary Lou have studied with Mr. Iyengar in Pune, India. During the second year of the program, Daisy apprenticed with Ms. Weprin in a weekly beginners class. In Summer of 2003, she apprenticed in prenatal and restorative (therapeutic) yoga classes. Daisy has also studied with Sandy Blaine, co-director of The Alameda Yoga Station (California) and the author of "Yoga for Healthy Knees." In addition, Daisy has taken workshops with master Iyengar teachers Ramanand Patel, Dona Holleman, and Joan White. During this intensive learning period (1996-2004), she also received her mantra from Mata Amritanandamayi ("Ammachi") and spiritual name from Baba Hari Dass ("Babaji") in California. Daisy has also attended 10- and 3-day Vipassana meditation retreats as taught by students of S.N. Goenke, including a special 1-day seminar taught by "Goenkeji" in Hayward, California during his last US visit. Since 1999, Daisy has taught yoga privately and in various San Francisco area adult schools, studios, and health clubs. She was hired by Shaklee Corporation to teach classes for its employees. She enjoys holding restorative workshops on yoga for respiratory health, depression, and insomnia. She has a lot of fun practicing and teaching hatha yoga. In 2005, Daisy relocated to Salem, Oregon and is currently teaching there. She is always happy to answer any e-mail questions from anywhere regarding yoga. Contact Daisy: |
